About Me
I'm Michael Metz. I'm the COO of V.I.P. Mortgage, Inc., where I've spent the last 16 years. Over that span we've grown from a company of 60 employees to roughly 600 today.
Along the way, I've worked in or alongside nearly every function in a mortgage operation: origination, processing, closing, post-closing, lock desk, appraisals, and training. These days, there’s a heavy focus on vendor relationships, technology integrations, Encompass, and increasingly, AI. I'm an active member of The Mortgage Collaborative and stay engaged with the broader industry.
I've had very good teachers over the years, and I've still managed to make some stupid mistakes despite their best efforts. I read a lot, ask a lot of questions, and write a lot of notes with the answers. This site is where I share some of those answers.
About This Site
Our industry never lacks for headlines. It's easy to be heads-down on a project and completely miss the news cycle of the week. That's where the Metz Market Minute comes in: a weekly audio-only segment on the Chrisman Commentary that summarizes the key updates in about a minute.
MetzNotes is the longer version. Here you'll find the resources behind those updates, a closer look at what they mean, and additional context for the topics worth digging into. I’ll also publish deeper dives on topics I’m already researching, especially where good resources don’t already exist online. I’ll focus on regulatory and market updates, tech integrations, and data-driven analysis of headlines.
There's also a calendar with the major economic events used for writing the MMM. Since there was no easy place in Internetlandia with all of them listed, it's hosted here.
No clickbait. No hot takes. Just concise information written for the people who do this work every day.
